A terrible cloudburst in Milan

In Milan between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on July 25, a cloudburst hit with wind gusts of over 100 km/h.
Numerous trees were blown down by the fury of the wind, the streets are overrun with huge tree trunks that crushed cars, the city’s parks are a tangle of trunks, fronds and roots that are now seeing the light along with the large portions of land they were clinging to until now.
The power lines of the circular trolley bus lines have also been heavily damaged, with trees that have collapsed in their midst sweeping away power cables. Firefighters are working tirelessly to cut the trees into small portions and haul away the wood to clear cars, roads and bike paths.
Milan’s major parks will remain closed until the end of August to avert further dangers from any unsafe branches, and in any case from the presence of all these woody protuberances that could pose a danger.

I took a quick walk around the city to capture some symbolic images of this disaster, due to climate change that is now before the eyes of everyone with a modicum of common sense.

A Milano tra le 3 e le 4 del mattino del 25 luglio si è abbattuto un nubifragio con raffiche di vento di oltre 100 km/h. Numerosissimi alberi sono stati abbattuti dalla furia del vento, le strade sono invase da tronchi di alberi enormi che hanno schiacciato le auto, i parchi della città sono un groviglio di tronchi, fronde e radici che vedono ora la luce insieme alle grosse porzioni di terra cui si aggrappavano fino ad ora.
Anche le linee elettriche delle linee circolari dei filobus sono state pesantemente danneggiate, con gli alberi che sono crollati in mezzo ad esse travolgendo i cavi elettrici.
I vigili del fuoco sono al lavoro incessantemente per tagliare gli alberi in piccole porzioni e portare via il legno per liberare auto, strade e percorsi ciclabili, i grandi parchi milanesi rimarranno chiusi fino alla fine del mese di agosto per scongiurare ulteriori pericoli dovuti ad eventuali rami pericolanti, e in ogni caso per la presenza di tutte queste protuberanze legnose che potrebbero rappresentare un pericolo.

Ho fatto un giro veloce per la città per catturare qualche immagine simbolica di questo disastro, dovuto al cambiamento climatico che oramai è sotto gli occhi di tutti coloro che hanno un minimo di buon senso.
